Applicants from Other Canadian Jurisdictions
Under the Ontario labour mobility legislation a person registered in a regulated jurisdiction (Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Quebec; New Brunswick; Nova Scotia) may be registered in Ontario without any additional reassessment or restrictions. An applicant who is a member in good standing of another Canadian respiratory therapy regulatory body will, upon application and payment of the applicable fee and subject to a few other restrictions, be registered with the CRTO without further material education, examination or experience.
Applicants from unregulated jurisdictions (British Columbia, Prince Edward Island, Newfoundland and Labrador, the Territories and Nunavut) may be registered in Ontario under the Agreement for the Registration of Respiratory Therapists form Unregulated Jurisdictions in Canada if they meet the following requirements. Applicants must:
- be a registered member of the CSRT practising in an unregulated jurisdiction in Canada;
- be permitted by the CSRT to use the title “Registered Respiratory Therapist”;
- be in compliance with a program of continuing education established by the CSRT that meets the accepted requirements set by all of the signatories;
- have practised the profession within that unregulated jurisdiction for a minimum of 750 hours within the previous two years while holding a current registered membership with the CSRT;
- provide a letter of reference from their last or current employer(s) in a form prescribed by the signatories; and
- provide a letter from the CSRT confirming that the applicant has been a registered member in good standing for the past two years.
In order to register with the College of Respiratory Therapists of Ontario (CRTO) applicants from Canadian jurisdictions (regulated or unregulated) must complete the CRTO Application for Registration form, and submit this form, together with the applicable fee(s) and documentation to the College office.
Please note that the CRTO may:

-
provide evidence of good character (including a criminal record check);
-
demonstrate knowledge of the standards maintained by a regulatory body applicable to the practice of respiratory therapy in that province, and
-
obtain professional liability insurance.
