Each electoral year, we set out with the intention of holding an election, never really knowing just how many nominations we’re going to receive. Sometimes we only receive one for each open position….

In the event that there is only one person nominated for any given seat, the CRTO by-laws say:

10.10

If the number of candidates nominated for an electoral district is equal to the number of members to be elected in the electoral district, the Registrar shall declare the candidates to be elected by acclamation.

This year, we received only one eligible nomination for each available position in district 1. As such, this nominatied Member was acclaimed and no election was held for this positions this year. Districts 2 & 5 received multiple nominations for the Council position and an election was held in that area. For the remaining unfilled positions a call for applications will go out for District 1 and 5 Non-Council Committee postions, The Executive Committee will review and appoint the remaining vacant positions.
